gThirtyFour

This was our fun little side project that we will work on throughout the year. It started out by wanting a Power Mac G4, but not purchasing one because shipping on ebay would have been insane and there are none locally. So, we took a 400MHz B&W G3 and purchased some parts to make it equal to a early G4 but with some cool extras! We have a series of YouTube videos that go along with this project so you can get the full story! As day-by-day upgrades and benchmarks comparing it to that of the stock G3 that was in this thing. We tagline this both G4 B&W and gThirtyFour!

Intro

This is the video that will start it all. You'll see the B&W in it's stock form before we go ahead and start upgrading.

gThirtyFour: Day 1

So, today is the day we do some upgrades which include upgrading the Ram to 704MB (a tad bit low but 1GB in the future!), Throw in a 80GB hard drive to replace the 40GB, add a PCI wireless card, and a few little other things.

gThirtyFour: Day 2

Today we do the biggest upgrades the B&W may ever see. A 450MHz FastMac G4 and a 128MB Radeon 9200 for superior graphics performance (next to the stock 16MB Rage 128) - and did I mention? My "G4" can now use my 22" Apple Cinema Display.

gThirtyFour: Day 3

Not so much today, but this G4 can now use USB 2.0 devices and FireWire 800. Now all 4 PCI slots are filled! If we ever get a SATA card we'll need to ditch a card.
